Domestic goat is one of the oldest domesticated species, with the earliest found evidence dating from 10,000 years ago. Domestic goats are a subspecies of a wild goat of Eastern Europe and Southwest Asia. It is likely that all domesticated goats of today have one common ancestor, possibly Bezoar Ibex. The goats are a close relative to sheep. They are highly social animals, and are known for their intelligence and curiosity. They are very agile, and are the only ruminant that climbs trees.
Studies have shown that goats are capable of complex communication with humans, similar to that of dogs and other pets. The life expectancy of a goat is around 15 – 18 years.
