About the Show

Adam Brouillette
Alison Rose Bartlett

My work is highly influenced by nostalgia, characters, and pop culture. I find the connection of familiar images of the past can be a great connector for conversation, so I look to incorporate that into all my work. Even if you don’t remember much about the movie, you may remember passing by the box at your local video store countless Friday nights. So playing with these familiar images is a way to connect myself to that nostalgia, while also connecting to modern day images and characters.

A degree in fashion design helped to grow my interest to explore textiles and design. Today, I use sequins, glitter, rhinestones, sand, and illustration in my work, marrying my love for more traditionally used textile design accessories, but in new and unexpected ways.

My hope is that my work sparks a conversation for folks to share a story about a fond memory around a movie or character they love.

About the Artist:

Alison’s art is influenced by nostalgia and pop culture. Her work plays with familiar images of the past, re-imagined using glitter and sequins. Exploring the use of these more traditionally used textile design accessories in a new way.

She has shown her work around the country. In character and movie themed group shows in California, numerous group shows in Columbus, and a group show in Denver celebrating a local wonder, Casa Bonita. She’s also had solo shows featuring character based collections in both Akron and Columbus. She’s honored to have been included in donating work for the bi-annual Art for Life Silent Auction at the Columbus Art Museum in 2021 and 2023. In 2022 she was a recipient of the Greater Columbus Arts Council Grant.

Alison has a BA in Fashion Design, and enjoys design and illustration, textiles, and screen-printing. She was born in Denver, and spent over two decades in Ohio after completing her BA there. She’s now settled back in Colorado, and looks forward to exploring the current incredible art scene.

Carolin Wood

About the Artist:

Carolin’s art is strongly influenced by the matriarchal presence of her adoptive grandmother, the fellowship of her foster sisters, and the nurturing natural surroundings of her childhood in rural Ohio. Her work continues to explore the role of feminine energy as a major force in community-keeping. She channels the maternal aspect in her current series which is inextricably bound to her struggle against the shadow of patriarchy, both as a single mother striving to raise empathetic children, and as a lifelong gardener (currently for New York City Parks) who believes safe, green space is an integral part of community.
