The Pied Crow, a small sized Raven, is a widely distributed African bird species in the crow genus. They mostly live in Southern Africa and Madagascar, preferring open areas close to human dwellings, usually in pairs or small groups. The word “pied” means they have bold patches of feathers with sharply defined edges. African pied crows are intelligent and curious, are attracted by shiny things, and are omnivorous. Research shows that they can use tools and possess problem-solving abilities. In the fall females lay 4-5 green eggs with brown spots. Both males and females take part in rearing the young.
Due to the pied crow’s high adaptability to human activities and having no known predators, their conservation status is listed as ‘least concern’
